The RCSSC is arguably the largest and most active Republican club in Southwest Florida. The area we serve had the highest average voter turnout in Sarasota County in the 2010 election cycle, with Precinct 150 achieving the highest average in the state (84.14 % turnout of Republican voters). If you ask the local politicians where their votes come from, they will tell you “South County.” The RCSSC has run the South County Campaign Office since the 2004 election cycle.
The RCSSC was first chartered by the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) in 1997 and has continued to maintain its RPOF charter every year thereafter. We currently operate under the umbrella of the Republican Party of Sarasota.
WHAT WE DO:
We invite local, state, and national candidates to speak at our meetings; hold forums for local candidates before the primaries; and man booths at many community events such as the Venice Area Chamber of Commerce Expo, the South County Expo, the Sun Fiesta, and the Jewish Food Festival. The RCSSC enters a decorated Republican float in both the Sun Fiesta and Holiday (Christmas) parades—some members ride on the float while other members and Republican supporters walk with our group.
We recently completed our 13th year as participants in the Keep Sarasota Beautiful Project. The RCSSC has cleaned Manasota Beach Road in Englewood (the main thoroughfare to one of the county’s most popular free beaches) four times a year since 2002.
We hold evening events for prominent national and state guest speakers in facilities that accommodate a large audience. Guest speakers for past events have included Marco Rubio, Grover Norquist, Connie Mack IV, Dave Bittner, Bill McCollum, the 2012 candidates for US Senate, and many others. Our objective is to have prominent speakers at an accessible venue at a reasonable cost for our community.
