Fed-Up Police Agencies Now Refuse To Protect Democrats
The radical calls to defund the police by members of the left has driven a great divide between them and the police officers that protect their cities – and now these officers are saying enough is enough.
Over 100 law enforcement agencies have made the decision to pull out of agreements to work security at the Democratic National Convention next month in Milwaukee. The decision comes partially as a result of recent restrictions placed on police that limits their ability to respond to violent riots.
Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales was ordered last month to change the department’s policies to ban the use of tear gas and pepper spray.
“Since the Milwaukee order was issued, more than 100 law enforcement agencies in Wisconsin and across the country decided against coming to Milwaukee, Morales told WTMJ-TV on Tuesday,” the Associated Press reported. “They were concerned with directives placed on the police department, including not allowing tear gas or pepper spray, he said.”
In Wisconsin, Franklin Police Chief Rick Oliva said, “It is apparent there is a lack of commitment to provide the Milwaukee Police Department with the resources it needs to ensure the safety of peaceful protesters, attendees, citizens and police personnel. I can not send personnel if they are not properly equipped or will not be allowed to engage in appropriate actions which would ensure their safety.”
Waukesha Police Chief Daniel Thompson responded by indicating that his department would not be sending officers to event, saying, “I understand that use of chemical irritants and pepper spray is serious and those are to be used only when legally justified. But when you take that out of the continuum that doesn’t leave the officers much other than getting harmed or using deadly force and that’s not good for any officer or the public.”
Democrats have become overrun by the more radical wing of the party who have been rather vocal about their desire to see the police destroyed.
Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar suggested that police were a “cancer” during a rant last month, adding, “we are saying we don’t want your damn reforms.”
“The Minneapolis Police Department is rotten to the root, and so when we dismantle it, we get rid of that cancer, and we allow for something beautiful to rise, and that re-imagining allows us to figure out what public safety looks like for us,” Omar said.
Democrat Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez similarly has sought to bring the police to their knees after insisting that they must be entirely defunded and that a $1 billion dollar budget cut to the NYPD was not enough.
Shootings have skyrocketed since NYC began targeting their police and officers have certainly felt the impact of not having the support of their local government.
The Democrats are at risk of permanently losing the trust of the police as this anti-police rhetoric has even reached the “top” of the Democratic party with presidential candidate Joe Biden charging that police are the “enemy” and that they should “absolutely” be defunded.
Earlier this month the National Association of Police Organization, the nation’s largest police association threw their weight behind President Trump’s re-election campaign after praising his “steadfast and very public support.”
